How To Naturally Clean Your Dentures

Posted on: 27 July 2017

You may love your new dentures because of how great the color of the teeth look when you wear them. Understand that even though dentures are fake teeth, they still can become discolored after years of use. Dentures require normal cleaning just as if they were real teeth. If you are hesitant to use those commercial denture cleaning products, you may be interested in trying some natural cleaning methods that can provide great results.

Vinegar

Vinegar is a product you may already have in your home that can make your dentures look great. The acidic nature of vinegar is how it helps remove tartar that has built up on your dentures. The vinegar also kills germs or bacteria which are responsible for causing tartar buildup.

Try using a simple, vinegar-based cleaning solution to clean your dentures. A 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water will do the trick. Leave the dentures in the mixture for only a few minutes, and you will see the tartar start to flake off and float within the cleaning solution. If the tartar does not come off, it will at least loosen the tartar, which help make removing it with a toothbrush much easier.

Baking Soda

Baking soda works great for cleaning because it is gentle, yet abrasive enough to clean surfaces and not cause damage. You can use baking soda to remove food particles, remove stains on the teeth, and give the dentures a polishing.

Apply a mixture of baking soda and water to a wet toothbrush, just as if it was toothpaste. Brush the dentures gently to scrub the surface. When finished, rinse off the baking soda under water and let the dentures air dry. This paste will not keep very well once it is mixed together, so only make enough to use once.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is capable of killing terms on you dentures. You only need enough to submerge the dentures in a cup or dish. Once they have soaked for about an hour, rinse off the dentures with water.

You should only use hydrogen peroxide that has a mild strength. You will be safe as long as you use the low-concentration hydrogen peroxide found at your local grocery store. You can also add water to hydrogen peroxide if you want to lower the strength of it for safety.
