However, gingivitis is also commonly experienced during a women's menstrual cycle. A few days before your cycle starts up you may notice a change in your oral health. These symptoms are caused by the change in hormones throughout your body. Your fluctuating hormonal levels create a breeding ground for bacteria. In order to create your peppermint and nutmeg rinse, add a handful of fresh peppermint to a small pot and add a spoonful of nutmeg. Fill the pot with warm water and place it on the stove to boil. Remove it from the heat once it boils, and set it aside to cool. Allow the mixture to steep for a few hours before using. When using, concentrate the rinse on your gums and teeth. This will help to cleanse any bacteria and soothe your gums.
Oregano is commonly used as a remedy for headaches and stomachaches. The herb contains antibacterial properties that help to fight off infection. An oregano rinse can be created by taking a handful of the fresh herb and steeping it in a cup of hot water. Allow the herb to soak overnight, then use it in the morning. For added taste, you can add a few drops of lemon juice to your rinse before using it. Work the rinse throughout your mouth and focus on your gums. Use the rinse a few days before your menstrual cycle and use it immediately after meals. This will help to reduce any bacteria growth in your mouth.
